Southern Gulf Islands Kayak Trip

Six NSSKA Paddlers paddled about 30 miles in 4 days through the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia. We camped on Sidney, D'Arcy, and Portland Islands. The campsites were excellent, and the scenery was superb.

Stillaguamish River Delta

  Five paddlers took advantage of the mid-day high tide to explore the Stillaguamish River’s delta and surrounding estuary. They rode the flood tide north from Kayak Point, taking time to appreciate the diverse wildlife including abundant eagles, white swans, seals, kingfishers and more in this section of the amazing Pacific Flyway.   The currents allowed a trip up the main river channel (Hat Slough) to the bridge  on Marine Drive. There we stopped for lunch and enjoyed a brief bit of sunshine. Once underway we enjoyed a brisk 1.5 kt push back down the river taking the more scenic but slightly longer westerly route back in to Port Susan where we were met with a favorable wind and current that made an easy paddle back to Kayak Point. Spada Lake Adventure

Fourteen paddlers explored Spada Lake on June 29, 2019. For most of them, it was a first visit to the  high mountain reservoir  on the Sultan River in eastern Snohomish County. The lake supplies Everett's drinking water. Because it is a protected resource, no power boats are allowed. As usual, we had the big lake practically to ourselves! We launched around 10:30 a.m. and paddled to the east end of the lake, where we parked our kayaks at the spot where a sparkling stream enters the lake. After lunching there, we took in more of the east end of the lake, traveling along the north shore before heading back to the launch site as the afternoon wind picked up. Some folks got off the lake; others continued westward to extend the experience. The weather and company were splendid.
